Digipaks

For our A2 music production we are also required to make a Digipak case for the band and the bands song we have chose to do, therefore i have decided to compile some research about digipaks and why they are used.

Digpaking is a patented form of a packaging for a cd or dvd. Digipaks Normally consists of a book like opening with a thick card or card stock outer spine, once opened up there is usually one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD, from examples i have seen, bands that make use of digipak usually include either a CD and a DVD or in some cases there will just be two CD's. Since 2000, Digipaks have been the new alternative to the plastic jewel case, they are used by major recored companies as they are a great way of adding potential to their promotional campaigns for their representative band.
In terms of protection and vunerability, Digipaking allows for a lesser chance that the case will crack and break although as they are made from card they do tend to wear alot more quicker, and as the digipak's are made from card material it offers the chance for the manufacturers of them to create a digipak that has less impact on the environment.
Digipaks are usually use by bands as a form of a promotional campaign, they generally link in with the advertising posters, digipaks offer the customer more; such as a dvd and other alternative goodies, for example in the Digipak Empire by kasabian that i looked at, there was the inclusion of cards conatining images of the band members.
