Planning - Production

Our music production requires us to have quite a few props in order to meet our requirements these include:

- Pre-taken photos
- A bear
- Other bears
- A barbeque
- A multi-coloured Jenga set
- A picnic blanket
- A car
- Suitcases
- A bicycle

For our music video we require only one actor, we have been able to find a suitable actor that can play the role, we chose to have him as he has had experience in productions and acting so therefore we believe that he will help portray a greater sense of realism.

We will also require a number of locations for the filming of our piece

- Fellow group members house - this is where we will shoot the majority of our video. The house will act as the man and the bear's home. We will also take some of the photos at the house that will act as props

- A park - we will use this for three of our flashback shots, and we also require two of the photos that will again form as props.

- The street - Our ending shots will take place on the street for our car scene

Planning - Early storyboard ideas

As a group, we have been able to come up with some very good ideas for shots to use in our music video. Our main idea at current is that the majority of our shots relate to lines in the song for example;

'When things break at the seam', we are going to tear a picture in half to symbolise that they are tearing apart
'Only you can set me free', the bear appears to have opened the door into where the man is
'Don't play with my emotions', a multi-coloured jenga set represents the man's emotions with each colour representing a different emotion, which are then knocked over to symbol that his feelings have been destroyed
'Is love a losing game?', the jenga bricks slightly resemble a question mark after they've been knocked over.

We have also been able to include postmodernism into our piece in the form of a pastiche. Our creative director Alex Harrington came up with the idea to implement a shot where we play on a trunk shot, a shot that was made famous by the director Quentin Tarantino, in our piece we film from the inside of a barbaque as the lid is lifted revealing the main protagonist throwing a photo into the flames.
We are also hoping to include an aspect of 1940's film noir where we hope to capture a silhoutte of the bear as it stands in a doorway.

We have now reached the halfway house with our storyboard, and these are just some of the ideas we have come up with so far.

Exprementing with Coral

As a group we have decided to practice with coral and it's many programs including; coral draw and coral photo paint, we chose to do this as part of our course requires us to create an album cover in the form of a digipak and a poster. Coral is a great way of a creating proffesional looking work that gives you a large amount of freedom and tools to work with. As you can see on the left i was able to create quite an interesting image where i was able to edit; the lighting of colours, group numerous different shapes, add font to an image with losing quality, and finally i was able to add a shadow giving depth and a 3d quality to my creation, from this i feel as though i have learnt many new techniques and skills which i with confidence belive i can implement into our production pieces.
With the results we have found with the exaxmples we have created we as a group have decided that we will be using Coral photo paint and Coral draw for the creattion of our digipak album cover and our advertising poster.

Planning - Storyboards

After long thought and consideration along with listening to our song numerous time these are the finshed stroyboards that we have come up with as a group. As a group we all influenced the final out come by throwing ideas into a melting pot which we then whilst listening to the music decided whether or not the idea could be done succesfully. We have decided to base the shots on almost each line of the song therefore the images that appear on screen conicide with the lyrics. In terms of timing we have chosen to have each shot in time with song as we wanted to include into our piece editing on the beat as from our research we all agreed this was a successful technique. The story of our video is of a lonely heart broken man who has just split from his girlfriend represented by the bear. The main protagonist is seen throughout the video rembering the past and happy times he had spent with his girlfriend, this will be cleverly achieved with the use of flashbacks. Finally we have chosen to have the present day shots, shot in black and white to represent loneliness and unhappiness of the main character and the flash backs will be in colour portraying the happiness once felt.
